Tips to keep your baby cool this summer

The summer sun is shining bright, and it's time to rock a pair of sunglasses and slather on some sunscreen. Wondering how to ensure your little one stays cool during the sweltering summer months? Don't worry, Olli+Lime has got you covered with some tips to keep your baby cool this summer.

Dress your little one in breezy threads

Embrace those cute and comfortable outfits made of lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton. Opt for loose-fitting clothes that allow air circulation and prevent overheating and discomfort. Say no to tight, sticky outfits that can overheat your little bundle.

Be a shade superhero

When out and about, be sure to seek shade. Shield your baby from direct sunlight by staying in shaded areas. Also, consider utilizing strollers with built-in sunshades or attach a portable umbrella to create a shaded space. Shade will help protect your baby's senstive skin from harmful UV rays.

Keep your cool with hydration

If your little one is under six months, they do not need water even if its a hot day. The best way to keep a little one hydrated under six months is through breast milk or formula. After six months old, you can start offering a small amount of water, but until your little one is eating solid foods, they will get all the water they need from breast milk or formula. If your baby is eating solid foods or purees, consider introducing them to some yummy, chilled fruit purees like watermelon or strawberries. Just imagine the joy on their little face as they taste the icy goodness!

Air-conditioning can be your best friend

When it feels like a hot humid jungle outside, air-conditioning can save the day. Create a cool oasis in your home with some A/C magic. Ensure the temperature is comfortable, but not too cold, for your baby. And if you don't have A/C or yours goes out this summer, fret not! A portable fan or simply opening windows for a cross breeze can work wonders too.

Splash in the water

Embrace the mini water park concept and let your baby splash around. Use a shallow tub, baby pool, or basin filled with cool water for your little one to splash and play in. Always supervise your baby closely during any water activities to ensure their safety.

The art of chilling out

One of the best parts of when temperatures soar? Kicking back and relaxing. Encourage downtime for your little one by creating a cool and calm environment. Dim the lights, play soothing music, and introduce some cool toys to keep your little one entertained and engaged. Perfect for an afternoon nap or winding down for the evening after a long, fun summer day in the sun. Time your outdoor activities ahead of time

Plan your outdoor adventures during the cooler parts of the day, like early mornings or evenings when the sun isn't at it's most intense. This helps minimize your baby's exposure to excessive heat and you and your baby can enjoy some quality time without feeling like you're melting away.

With these tips, we hope you are ready to tackle the summer heat while keeping your baby cool, calm, and collected. Remember, it's all about having fun while the weather is warm, staying hydrated, and enjoying those sunny moments with your little one.
